Not sure whether you need an editor or a standalone agent?

An integrated IDE is the place where you inspect and review code; a standalone coding agent can work in a terminal or connect to an editor. Compare both before choosing a paid plan.

Questions to ask before choosing

Is an AI code editor the same thing as a coding agent?

No. An editor is the environment where you write and review code; an agent executes development tasks. An editor can include one or more agents, while terminal agents can run without their own editor.

Which AI coding editor supports open-source workflows?

Among the currently mapped members, Zed has an open-source editor client. Check its license and model-provider terms independently: an open-source editor does not imply free hosted model usage.

Do CLI access and cloud-agent support mean the same thing?

No. CLI refers to terminal access, while cloud-agent workflows run tasks in hosted or remote environments. Some products support both. Filters reflect reviewed product records rather than exhaustive capability guarantees.
